A free and healthy lunch, professional help with homework, a wide range of sports and music offers as well as a varied holiday program...
... wait 6 days a week and also during the holidays for children from needy families in the "Guardian Angel House" on Bismarckstraße in Berlin-Steglitz. The non-profit organization SchutzengelWerk has been running the house since 2014. Here children from socially disadvantaged families between the ages of 6 and 18 find a reliable place after school.
On average, 35 children between the ages of 6 and 18 come every day to eat, learn, play and run around. There are a total of 200 "regular children" who visit the house. All children know that they can get help there at any time. The support in the Guardian Angel House is as individual as the needs of the children affected: help with homework, a warm meal, an open ear, the company of other children, excursions and sporting activities.
The donation from cds Wohnbau is just right, because the winter holidays are in February and they want to be filled with a varied programme. If the infection process allows it, a day in the trampoline park, indoor mini golf and a visit to the cinema with popcorn will certainly be among the children's highlights.
The offers in the Guardian Angel House, the loving and individual approach to the children by the caregivers, the mix of leisure and holiday activities, homework help, the focus on healthy nutrition, the coaching and the constant motivation are certainly unique in this form. Through their daily work, the caregivers have the opportunity to look after the children permanently and thus sustainably and to set change processes in motion and have them have a lasting effect. Many examples of children who have been cared for in the Guardian Angel House for years and who have developed excellently show that the Guardian Angel concept is a successful one.
